What are Cultured Pearls?

Cultured pearls are those that are formed through human intervention, which encourages mollusks to secrete layers of nacre, ultimately forming a pearl. While the process follows the natural principles of pearl formation, it involves inserting a bead nucleus to guide the process, making pearl production more controllable. 1.Cultivation Process: The process begins with selecting the appropriate mollusk. The mollusk is opened and a bead nucleus (typically a small shell fragment or spherical bead) is inserted into the animal. Afterward, it is returned to the water where, over the course of several months or years, the mollusk secretes layers of nacre around the bead, eventually forming a pearl. 2.Varieties: Common types of cultured pearls include freshwater pearls, South Sea pearls, and Tahitian black pearls. Each type has its own distinct appearance, size, and luster. Due to the natural elements and diverse cultivation methods involved, cultured pearls are typically of higher quality than imitation pearls. 3.Price: Since the cultivation of pearls requires time, effort, and specific environmental conditions, cultured pearls tend to be more expensive than imitation pearls.
